The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
