'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teens Await Answers After Alpine Fire
The loved ones of teens missing after a deadly inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are facing an excruciating wait for confirmed information and pleading for any details about their loved ones online.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Circulated video reveal the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which killed numerous partygoers and injured another 119. Authorities said on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with the process continuing to name the other six.
In the meantime, families and friends have been posting on social media to request any news about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his mother.
The who lives of a town near the city, told a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced hell."
The Italy's government has indicated that a number of of its citizens have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has stated that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A companion informed me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
