Dominant Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Season of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break after the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
