A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of activities far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing patience techniques to not snapping at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting developments surfaced during the holidays, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
